World Book Day
The British School of Brasília celebrates World Book Day as a school-wide opportunity to promote literacy and to encourage pupils to engage with reading, storytelling and creative writing. The day is fully dedicated to literacy-based activities, integrated into the school routine from the moment pupils arrive until the end of the school day.
Throughout World Book Day, pupils explore different forms of narrative and written expression. Activities include reading sessions, illustration, and the production of original texts, allowing children to develop their ideas through writing and visual representation. Pupils create a range of outputs, such as comics, poems, short stories and illustrated books, supporting both creative expression and language development.
Teachers from different phases visit classes during the day, contributing to a shared learning experience across the school and reinforcing a collective focus on reading and storytelling. This interaction across Year Groups strengthens pupils’ engagement and highlights literacy as a central element of learning in all phases.
This event also includes a themed dress-up component, with pupils invited to come to school dressed as their favourite book characters. The day concludes with a musical catwalk, where pupils present their costumes to the school community. A friendly competition recognises homemade costumes, encouraging creativity, participation and involvement from pupils and families.
World Book Day reflects the school’s ongoing commitment to literacy development and to fostering a positive relationship with reading, writing and storytelling from the Early Years through to Secondary education.
