International Day 2026

On Saturday, March 21st, The British School of Brasilia (BSB) hosted its annual International Day, a well-established event within the school calendar that reflects the cultural and linguistic diversity of its community. The occasion brought together pupils, families and staff, alongside representatives from the wider international community in Brasilia, creating a space for cultural exchange and collective participation.

The event was structured around the transformation of classrooms into representations of countries and regions from around the world. Each space was organised by families and pupils, incorporating elements such as traditional objects, visual displays and interactive activities. Food constituted a central component of the experience, with dishes prepared and shared by families, reflecting the nationalities present within the school community. This arrangement enabled visitors to engage directly with different cultural contexts through both visual and sensory elements.

Throughout the day, attendees moved between classrooms and communal areas, participating in activities and interacting with representatives of each country. The organisation of the event emphasised accessibility and engagement, ensuring that pupils of all age groups could take part in the activities and develop an understanding of different cultural practices.

A structured programme of performances complemented the classroom activities, featuring contributions from both the external community and members of the school. Presentations included cheerleading, a traditional dance performed by the Embassy of Botswana and the Botswanan pupils, judo demonstrations and Japanese drum performances. Pupils and families also contributed to the programme, reinforcing the participatory nature of the event and the integration between school and community.

International Day remains a central moment in the institutional calendar, as it operationalises principles related to inclusion, cultural plurality and international awareness. By promoting direct interaction between different cultural groups, the event supports the development of a school environment in which diversity is not only represented but actively experienced.
