EYFS People Who Help Us

Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) classes explores the theme 'People Who Help Us' as part of its early learning programme. Through this topic, children are introduced to different professions that play an essential role in supporting and protecting the community, with particular attention given to the work of police officers and firefighters.

As part of this learning experience, representatives from the police department and the fire brigade visit the pupils to talk about their roles and responsibilities. During these visits, children engage in age-appropriate discussions about how these professionals help people in everyday situations, encouraging curiosity, listening skills and early social awareness. Pupils actively participate by asking questions and sharing their ideas.

The experience is extended through hands-on exploration. Children have the opportunity to see a police car and a fire truck up close and to explore some of the equipment used by police officers and firefighters in their daily work. These interactions support experiential learning and help children connect abstract ideas with real-world contexts.

Through this theme, Early Years pupils develop an initial understanding of community roles and the importance of cooperation, care and responsibility. The activities contribute to building early concepts of citizenship and social responsibility within a safe and engaging learning environment.
