BSB House Carnival is Here!

In February 2026, The British School of Brasilia (BSB) hosted its annual House Carnival, an event that brought together pupils, staff and families in a shared celebration of creativity, collaboration and school spirit. Rooted in the school’s House system, the occasion provided an opportunity for each House to explore a distinct theme, expressed through costumes designed and created by the pupils themselves.

Each House approached the challenge with a clear thematic identity aligned to its colour. The Romans, represented by blue, developed the concept of water beings, incorporating fluid forms and elements associated with aquatic environments. The Normans, in red, presented firebirds, drawing on visual references linked to movement and intensity. The Vikings, identified by yellow, explored the idea of sun spirits, with costumes reflecting luminosity and symbolic associations with light. The Saxons, in green, interpreted forest guards, focusing on elements related to vegetation and terrestrial ecosystems.

The event was structured to ensure participation across all stages of the school. In Primary and Secondary, each House held its own parade, allowing pupils to present their work within their respective groups. In the Early Years, a unified parade brought together all Houses, creating a shared moment adapted to younger pupils. Families were present throughout the event and actively engaged with the parades, contributing to the collective atmosphere and reinforcing the connection between school and community.

The House Carnival also served as a platform for the development of transversal skills. The process of designing and producing costumes required planning, cooperation and problem-solving, while the presentation element encouraged confidence and communication. These aspects align with the broader educational approach of the school, integrating creative activities within a structured learning environment.

Following the presentations, a jury composed within the school community evaluated the performances based on criteria related to thematic coherence, execution and overall presentation. The Romans was selected as the winner of this year’s House Carnival competition, in recognition of the consistency and clarity demonstrated in the development of their theme.

The event reflects the role of the House system in fostering participation and a sense of belonging among pupils. By combining creative expression with collective engagement, the House Carnival contributes to the ongoing development of the school community.
