Science Fair

The British School of Brasilia promotes its Science Fair as part of a broader learning experience that places scientific inquiry at the centre of school life. The event is presented as the culmination of a period dedicated to scientific exploration, experimentation and applied learning, offering pupils structured opportunities to engage with science beyond routine classroom activities.

Throughout Science Week, pupils take part in hands-on activities that support the understanding of scientific principles through practical experience. These activities are integrated into the school day and encourage students to explore concepts related to movement, observation and problem-solving, reinforcing curricular content in a contextualised manner. During break times, optional challenges and educational games are made available, allowing pupils to revisit and consolidate scientific knowledge developed over the academic year.

A whole-school experimental activity is incorporated to promote interdisciplinary learning. Pupils are invited to formulate hypotheses, conduct experiments, record results and reflect on their findings, following a structured scientific method. This approach integrates Science, Mathematics and English, supporting the development of analytical reasoning, scientific vocabulary and clear written and oral communication.

The Science Fair represents the final stage of this process. Pupils from different Year Groups across Primary and Secondary prepare and present individual projects to the wider school community. Each presentation focuses on explaining a scientific concept or investigation using appropriate terminology and structured reasoning. The event emphasises clarity of communication, confidence and critical thinking, alongside scientific understanding. All participants receive formal recognition for their engagement and commitment to the learning process.

The Science Fair reflects the school’s ongoing commitment to inquiry-based learning and to providing meaningful opportunities for pupils to engage with science as an active field of knowledge.
