Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHE)

Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHE) is a core component of the Secondary curriculum at The British School of Brasilia. Delivered through a structured programme supported by our mentoring team, PSHE plays an essential role in preparing pupils for the academic, personal and social challenges of adolescence and early adulthood.
Through PSHE, Secondary pupils develop the knowledge, understanding and skills required to make informed decisions, manage relationships, and take responsibility for their own wellbeing. The programme addresses key areas such as mental and physical health, personal safety, emotional literacy, financial awareness and citizenship, supporting pupils as they grow into confident, reflective and independent young people.
Learning in PSHE is closely connected to real-life contexts. Pupils are encouraged to engage in discussion, reflection and collaborative activities that promote critical thinking and self-awareness. Opportunities beyond the classroom, including participation in charity initiatives and community-focused projects, further support pupils in understanding their role within both local and global communities.
As pupils progress through Secondary, PSHE provides a safe and respectful space to explore moral, social and cultural issues that are integral to this stage of development. By fostering respect for diversity, empathy and shared values, the programme equips pupils with the foundations needed to build meaningful relationships and to contribute positively as informed, responsible and engaged citizens in an increasingly interconnected world.
